Duration of a J-1 Intern Visa 2025
- As long as they continue to be enrolled students at their home institution for the duration of their internship, J-1 Student Interns are permitted to stay in their internship programs in the United States for a maximum of 12 months.
- A department must request an extension before the student intern’s current end date indicated on their DS-2019 and DS-7002 if a J-1 intern whose initial internship is less than 12 months wants to prolong their internship.
