Record of killed and unaccounted people during wildfire

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the fires, which are centred in Los Angeles, have killed 24 people and left 16 more unaccounted for. Nearly 200,000 people have been forced to relocate and more than 39,000 acres of land roughly 2.5 times the size of Manhattan have been burned. “The recovery for Los Angeles will need tens of billions of dollars,” the departing president said as the city prepared for the return of high winds that could reignite the deadly wildfires.

According to The Washington Post, fire crews in Los Angeles are ultimately fighting a difficult battle against the destructive wildfires while using the CL-415 Super Scooper, one of the most efficient firesfighting aircraft available. These Canadian-built amphibious water bombers have the ability to swiftly collect and drop massive volumes of water straight onto fires by skimming the surface of open bodies of water.

Two Super Scoopers to fight on-going wildfires

According to The Washington Post, the Los Angeles County Fire Department has sent out two Super Scoopers to fight on-going wildfires and is scheduled to receive two more planes and staff from Canada. As they cooperate to put out the fires, these aircraft are actually a part of a larger fleet that also consists of air tankers and helicopters. The Super Scooper can actually carry much heavier loads than the helicopters with buckets, and it can refill its water supply without landing, enabling it to continue operating until its fuel runs out, according to The Washington Post.

As per the Washington Post, the Super Scooper can reach 100 mph and collect 1,600 gallons of water within 12 seconds. Due to damage from a civilian drone, only one of the two Super Scooters that the Quebec government loaned is currently in use. In reality, the aircraft is made to drop water directly over wildfires, and for added efficacy, it can combine the water with foam concentrate.
