SASSA Grant Increases for April 2025: Starting in April 2025, the Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Social Security Agency (SASSA) have something to look forward to. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana officially announced additional Sassa grants in his postponed budget speech, providing a much-needed boost to millions of people relying on the state’s help.
Rises: The increases this year are marginally larger than typical. Treasury has permitted a 5.7% to 5.9% increase, which is significantly higher than inflation, rather than the usual R10 to R90 boost. Its goal is to lessen the impact of the two 2025 VAT rises. The new grant amounts compare as follows:
Type of Grants | Previous Amount | Increase | New Amount (April 2025) |
Old Age (60–74 years) | R2,185 | R130 | R2,315 |
Old Age (75+ years) | R2,200 | R135 | R2,335 |
Disability Grant | R2,185 | R130 | R2,315 |
War Veterans Grant | R2,185 | R130 | R2,315 |
Care Dependency Grant | R2,185 | R130 | R2,315 |
Child Support Grant | R530 | R30 | R560 |
Foster Care Grant | R1,180 | R70 | R1,250 |

Only a few of these awards will receive another boost in October 2025, even though all of them will enjoy increases in April. Unfortunately, this second boost excludes grants for care and child benefits.
Payments: Here are the verified SASSA payment dates for April 2025 in case you’re wondering when the money will arrive in your account:
- Older Persons Grant: Thursday, 3 April
- Disability Grant: Friday, 4 April

Cards: Let’s move on to the crucial issue of the SASSA gold card. The new Post Bank Black Card must be used by March 20, 2025. Your gold card is now essentially worthless if you haven’t switched yet. If you attempt to use it, the following occurs:
- It cannot be withdrawn or completed.
- The card will be refused by retailers.
- Your card can be swallowed by an ATM.
Don’t panic, though. When you miss the deadline, there is a grace period. Up until the end of June 2025, Postbank will continue to allow card swaps.
Access: You can continue to receive your grant: if your card is not concluded after the deadline.
- Post Office branches in South Africa
- Till points for retailers only in April & May.
Have you obtained your Postbank Black Card yet? Fantastic, ATMs and the following large retailers accept withdrawals:
- Shoprite
- Usave
- Boxer
- Spar
- Pick n Pay
- Checkers
The catch is that post office branches will not assist Black cardholders. Instead, use ATMs or affiliated merchants.
