Fulbright Scholarship 2025-26 Application Process: To collaborate with the Public Affairs Sections of the Applications for the Fulbright South Africa Exchange Program are now being accepted. Participants in South Africa’s Fulbright Foreign Student Program and Fulbright Research Scholar Program will have their in-country logistics handled by the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria and the Consulates General in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program: South Africa’s Fulbright Foreign Student Program at American universities, Fulbright students work toward a master’s degree, a PhD, or PhD research. Scholarships cover up to 2 years of education. Mission South Africa chooses a group of 20 students each year.
Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar Program: The Fulbright Visiting Research Scholar Program allows South African academics and scholars to spend three to nine months conducting independent post-doctoral research at academic or research institutions in the United States. Ten scholars are chosen each year by Mission South Africa.
Objectives and Goals of Fulbright Scholarship 2025
The recipient of the grant will assist:
- The grantee will pay for participant visa interviews at US Consulates General in South Africa, including domestic travel, lodging, and other related expenses.
- In order to attend visa interviews, roughly 30% of applicants require lodging, airfare, and/or domestic travel expenses.
- A two-day pre-departure orientation (PDO) in Gauteng will be attended by thirty participants. Participant travel, venue selection and payment, on-site logistics support, and participation are all included in the PDO’s logistics.
- Every candidate needs a place to stay, and roughly 70% of them need reimbursement for domestic flights and/or road travel.
- Logistics for four Fulbright alumni participating in a single PDO day, including domestic airfare and/or reimbursement for transportation, and one night’s accommodation at the PDO site.
- On-site preparations for a reception that can hold up to 60 people during the PDO, including working with the venue on setup and catering options.
- The $275 honorarium for each of the two PDO guest speakers will be covered and paid for.
- Logistics and expenses, including international one-way airfare and reservations, for a maximum of ten scholars and five eligible dependents en route to the United States from a South African domestic or international departure airport.
